Cosmetic Acupuncture: A Natural Alternative for Healthy Skin with Majeeda Hanna, L.A.c.

Updated: Sep 15, 2023

Who doesn’t love to feel beautiful? I think most people I talk to express in some way or another their concern about aging, especially when it comes to the look of their skin. Healthy, youthful skin has always been on trend and in the last 10 years huge advancements in dermatological, aesthetic, and plastics technologies has made it so individuals are able to achieve their cosmetic goals almost immediately. However, these procedures are usually pretty pricey, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t *love* the idea of injecting my face with synthetic ingredients I mostly can’t pronounce, and don’t really feel like being totally out of commission for days to recover from some radical facial procedure. Cue Cosmetic Acupuncture.

By taking a slower and much less invasive approach, you can transform the look of your skin with no down time. Needles are inserted into the face to promote lifting, toning, a more even complexion, reducing the appearance of of lines, wrinkles, and scars, and of course: stimulating collagen production! Needles are inserted at the muscular level to tone muscle and tighten the face, and are threaded at the skin level to fill in wrinkles, lines, and scars; in both needle techniques we are stimulating the collagen process by causing micro-trauma to the skin.

I love cosmetic acupuncture for so many reasons: my skin is more plump, it’s brighter, more vibrant, my lines fade just enough, and I can still keep the expression on my face (which is SO important for our emotional health, but we can talk about that later). The absolute cherry on top, though, is all the whole-body benefits you will feel with regular cosmetic sessions. Some feedback I’ve gotten from patients is a reduction in jaw tension and pain related to TMJ dysfunction, reduction or absence of migraines and headaches, more energy, improved sleep, better focus and concentration, and an overall feeling of alignment and stress relief.

At Serenity, I carefully work with patients to determine what the course of treatment will be given their areas of concern. For maximum results, I recommend a cosmetic series that typically requires 10-12 sessions performed over the span of 5-12 weeks with monthly maintenance appointments after the initial series. Following this protocol, results should last 3-5 years depending on your lifestyle habits. However, one-off sessions can be scheduled if you’re looking for a quick skin “pick-me-up”, it definitely still works. Also worth noting that any previous cosmetic work does not disqualify you from receiving cosmetic acupuncture; ongoing aesthetic treatments are not disqualified either but shoot us a message if you’re unsure and we’ll advise. In addition to facial needles, I finish each session with some gentle facial cupping and red light therapy using SolaWave technology. I also incorporate the use of high-grade Chinese Herbal facial serums and sprays to even further promote the health of your skin. Oh! and last but not least, you can add on Celluma LED light therapy to enhance your results. Celluma is an LED light device that basically super charges the metabolic function of cells, meaning your skin cells get a major boost. There is no age requirement to receive this therapy, it can be utilized as a preventative step to slow the aging process or as a therapy to reverse signs of aging; either way, you will walk out of the treatment room with quite a glow.
